Spookiness in the Movies and on Television Spookiness in the Movies and on Television

Halloween-This is one of my favorite horror movies. It’s actually on my list of all time favorite movies. Anyways, the plot is: A little kid kills his sister and is then sent off to a mental institute. 15 years later, he breaks out and goes on a killing spree in his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois. This movie has some good jump scenes and one of the best soundtracks. This is the #1 movie you should watch on Halloween. It has spawned 6 sequels. *Note: The third in the series has nothing to do with the plot line of the other movies. Not sure why, but oh well.

A Nightmare on Elm Street-The ever-so lovable Freddy is the killer in this movie. It is a very creepy movie about a man a can enter your dreams and kill you. If you die in your dream, you die in real life. Very trippy plot. This was Johnny Depp’s very first movie. There are 6 sequels to this movie. The last one is entitled New Nightmare. It’s the best sequel I believe. The others are okay. Check this one out too.

Psycho-Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece starring Anthony Perkins. This movie holds the (in)famous shower scene with the screeching music. Awesome movie. Creepy but awesome. Psycho has 3 other sequels with Psycho IV being a prequel. Also was remade with Vince Vaughn and Anne Heche starring in it.

Friday the 13th-Probably one of the most famous and recognizable killers resides in this movie. That man, or monster, would be Jason Voorhees. The first one is actually about Jason’s mother gaining revenge for her son’s supposed death. Apparently, by the end, we find out he is very much alive. He begins his killing spree in the 2nd movie of the series. Jason doesn’t actually don the famous hockey mask until Part 3. This movie has spawned 8 sequels with a couple on the way. Jason X and Freddy vs Jason are rumoured to be released in the future.

The Excorcist-This movie just recently re-released into theaters. It's one of the classic horror movies about a girl who becomes possessed by a demonic spirit known as Captain Howdy. Not a good movie for the weak at heart. Linda Blair ends up puking pea soup, mutilating herself, and the famous 360 head-turn while possessed. Very interesting movie. Personally I didn't like it. It's kind of slow starting but picks up towards the end.

Scary Movie-This movie is a humourous spoof of horror movies. It mainly spoofs Scream, I Know...., Sixth Sense, and Halloween. Very funny even though it pushes the limits with it's sick yet funny humour. It's not on video, but I do believe it is still in theaters.

The Sixth Sense-Definently a must see. Rent it if you haven't seen it. It's about a boy who can see dead people and Bruce Willis tries to help him through the boy's problems. Very cool.

Scream-Over the past few years, this has become one of the most popular horror movie. Though it is looked down upon by true horror movie fans, it is still pretty good. The movie has two other sequels which are actually good as well. Scream 3 was said to be the last movie in the series but who knows.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer-This is one of my favorite TV shows. It’s awesome. It stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy. She rids the world of vampires, demons, and any non-human things that are evil. They also mix in a little humour to go with it. The show is now in its 5th season. In the season opener, there was a guest appearance from the most famous vamp of all, Dracula.

Angel-This is another of my favorite TV shows. It is also a spin-off from BTVS. Angel is a vampire with a soul trying to redeem himself from the crimes he committed as the soulless vamp known as Angelus. The show is in its 2nd season. The show stars David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, Alex Denisof, and J. August Richards.
